Lake Balanan to open
to tourists next month

Lake Balanan, a water basin formed during a natural cataclysm in the 1920s and found in Brgy. Sandulot less than 10 kilometers from the poblacion of the town of Siaton, Oriental Negros, will open to tourists and other visitors starting next month.

Rep. Emilio Macias II (2nd district, Oriental Negros) and a former governor of the province, said the building of tourist facilities and other infrastructures are being completed for the convenience of visitors.

Macias advised visitors to stay away from the place until after the projects were completed.

He said the communities along the banks of the lake are still being organized to be able to guide visitors and collect trash and other wastes.

The facilities include tree houses, a restaurant, and a room where visitors could spend time resting.

About P4 million is being spent for the road project. The money came from APEC Partylist Rep. Sunny Rose Madamba who gave P1 million, Rep. Herminio Teves (3rd district, Oriental Negros) P2 million, and Senator Aquilino Pimentel - P1 million.

The provincial government also plans to develop a housing project for the villagers leaving along the banks of the lake.*RG
