Majority of the almost 14,000 buildings that have been inspected
by the Bureau of Fire Protection in Oriental Negros were found to
be complying with the fire-safety regulations.
SFO1 Gerardo Gonzales, BFP chief, said the buildings were
equipped with fire-safety requirements that include fire-exits,
fire extinguishers, and emergency lights.
The inspection covered mercantile and residential edifices
such as dormitories, boarding houses, and hotels; business occupancy
like clinics, government buildings, schools, and hospitals; and
public assembly that include restaurants, bars, beerhouses and department
stores. Interior and Local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes had
earlier ordered the inspection of public buildings, dormitories,
and boarding houses in the wake of a fire that left eight students
dead in Manila in December.
Inspected were establishments within the jurisdiction of BFP in
the province including those in the towns of Basay, Zamboanguita,
Dauin, Bacong, Sibulan, Amlan, Pamplona, Manjuyod and Bindoy.*RG
