Furniture makers
hold 2-day gab

Local furniture makers will tackle competitiveness and extensive control in price monitoring during a seminar set today and tomorrow, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Department of Trade and Industry Board Room at Rosario-Gatuslao streets, Bacolod City.

The speaker will be Gerhard Rainer, CFIP management and technical consultant.

Jo Lucendo, president of Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines - Negros Occidental, said in a press release that the seminar is aimed to secure the industry's edge in design and product development and to maintain its export market.

Lucendo cited statistics, showing that as of August 2005, the Philippine furniture industry earned P11.173 billion in export sales. It also generates employment for more than 481,500 and 300,000 sub-contractors.

After the seminar, Rainer will conduct a one-on-one consultancy with CFIP members on Jan. 25 to 28.

Establishments that signified participation in the seminar are Ambience Home and Office Furniture, Art Energy, Golden Furnishing, Hacienda Crafts, Ilonggo International Home and Furnishing Manufacturer, Sason Shop, and Tumandok.*
