Stranded turtle freed

Another female green sea turtle, which reportedly originated from Malaysia, was found stranded yesterday in a fish cage at Sitio Panaosawon, Brgy. Latasan, E.B. Magalona.

This came a month after a sea cow, locally known as dugong, was also stranded and freed by the Environment and Natural Resources Office of E.B. Magalona.

Environment and Natural Resources Officer Ariel Malunes yesterday said the sea turtle, weighing 150 pounds, has tag numbers MY (S) 17437 and MY (S) 30937 on its left and right clippers.

The meter-long "pawikan", which is an endangered species, was found by fishermen in a fish cage owned by Harry Arcangel.

Malunes said an average of two marine turtles are stranded in the territorial waters of E.B. Magalona every month, but they are freed immediately.

The Bantay Dagat and E.B. Magalona policemen yesterday joined Malunes and barangay residents in freeing the turtle.*GPB
