Suspect in killing
of Escudero slain

A suspect in the murder of Manuel Zacharias Escudero, a grandson of Negrense planter Teresita Montilla-Araneta, was shot dead while trying to snatch a gun from a Manila policeman before dawn yesterday.

The police said killed was Martin Ong who allegedly snatched the gun of a Senior Police Officer de Leon while at the MPD Headquarters at United Nations Avenue.

Another suspect nabbed along with Ong was Leopoldo Villanueva at Tramo Rotonda in Pasay City 3 a.m. yesterday, the police said.

The police said Escudero was shot dead at Arellano Avenue in Malate Manila at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, when he fought back after his Nokia 3100 cellphone was snatched.

Zacharias is the son of the Negrense Baba Araneta and Manolet Escudero, a nephew of Villa Escudero resort owner Ado Escudero.*
