The Department of Education has authorized Nilda Monge, principal
of the Negros Occidental High School, to continue performing her
duties as the administrator of the Paglaum Sports Complex.
DepEd Undersecretary Ramon Bacani told Monge in a letter dated
Jan. 12 that she needs to continue performing her responsibilities
as administrator of PSC pending the finalization of arrangements
for the management and administration of the venue after the 23rd
Southeast Asian Games in November and December last year.
The provincial government donated the Paglaum to the DepEd
in 1995, but it was abandoned until it was rehabilitated for the
biennial meet.
Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella said about P30 million, P12
million of which went to lighting system, had been spent for the
rehabilitation of the sports complex before the SEA Games.
Bacani, during his visit in Bacolod City two weeks ago, said
his office is looking at the creation of a management board under
the DepEd, which will include all the stakeholders as well as those
who can make a contribution to the operation and maintenance of
Paglaum.
Monge said the NOHS stakeholders proposed that the sports complex
management board should be composed of representatives from DepEd,
NOHS administration, the office of the Bacolod congressman, the
office of the Negros Occidental governor, and the NOHS Alumni Association
Inc.
Puentevella, on the other hand, has proposed that the board be
composed of the NOHS principal representing the DepEd, a representative
of the NOHS alumni, a representative of the office of the congressman,
a representative of the office of the mayor and the Negros Occidental
Cultural and Sports Foundation. *CIT
