Brothers nabbed for
peddling 'shabu'

Two brothers, one of them released from jail after posting a P200,000 bail last year, were separately arrested by a joint police drug enforcement team near noon Monday at Zone 4, Brgy. Looc, Dumaguete City, for alleged possession of shabu.

Arrested by virtue of separate warrants of arrest issued by Executive Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. of the Regional Trial Court of Oriental Negros were Ricardo Tolentino, 47, and his brother Edgar, 38, both married and residing in Looc.

The team headed by Inspector Teddy Faburada confiscated from Ricardo five small plastic sachets containing what is believed to be shabu and P13,140 believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade.

About 25 minutes later, the team served Edgar Tolentino's arrest warrant and confiscated from his possession six small plastic sachets containing a substance believed to be shabu and P12,000 believed to be proceeds from the sale of the banned substance. Faburada said Edgar had an arrest record last year but was out on a P200,000 bail.

He said this time the suspect might not be able to go scot-free since the confiscated substance could weigh an estimated 10 to 11 grams, which meant he would not be able to post bail. The law makes bailable any illegal drug offense involving nine grams or less of seized shabu.*RG
