VM bats for Pacquiao
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

"I wish Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao all the victories in his journey to the United States," Acting Bacolod Mayor Renecito Novero said yesterday.

A re-match between Pacquiao and Mexican Erik Morales is scheduled in Las Vegas, Nevada on Jan. 21.

Novero said he wishes that Pacquiao would bring home all the glory for the Filipinos and the Bacolodnons. It will be an honor for Bacolod if Pacquiao wins the fight against Morales being an adopted son of the city. He is a good example and a motivation to the youth and ambitious boxers, he said.

Pacquiao became an adopted son of Bacolod City by virtue of an executive order issued by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Leonardia has been invited to the match personally by Pacquiao and the city is not funding his trip. He has ordered the showing of Pacquiao-Morales rematch, that will be fed by Skycable, at the City Hall grounds and at the three major markets in Bacolod on Jan. 22.

Meanwhile, Novero said being a mayor is a very tough job. "Just addressing the problems of the markets, and the peace and order, and signing documents, I can now understand better now the predicament of the mayor (Leonardia) and maybe all the city mayors," he said, in addition to the fact that one has to attend to innumerable functions.*CGS
