PSDO adds 3 more
events in Panaad tilt

The Negros Occidental Provincial Sports and Development Office is pushing for the inclusion of three more disciplines in the 2006 Panaad Sportsfest at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City from April 22 to May 1.

Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the PSDO, said he is pushing for swimming, chess and table tennis to be included in the calendar of events of the competitions to be participated in by athletes from the various towns and cities in Negros Occidental.

Negros has produced internationally competitive swimmers, including 2003 Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Carlo Piccio and Mark Kalaw, and ASEAN Swimfest qualifier Krestia Angela Lacson.

Pagunsan
competes in Pakistan

Negrense golfer Juvic Pagunsan has practically won every amateur crown in the Philippines. But he will not be among the favorites as he sets out in his professional golf debut in the Pakistan Open that starts today in Karachi.

Making its debut on the Asian Tour, the Pakistan Open is the second leg of the 2006 season and Pagunsan will have to contend with the Tour's bigwigs that includes the likes of Australia's Marcus Both, currently sixth on the UBS Order of Merit, Korea-American Ron Won, and former Tour winners Jeev Milkha Singh of India, Malaysia's Danny Chia, Myanmar's Zaw Moe and American Andrew Pitts.

Sixteen squads will be vying for the crowns in the boys and girls' division of the aspirant volleyball hostilities of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association sports meet that kicks off at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City Saturday.

University of St. La Salle hopes to retain its championship in the boys' category, while the St. Scholastica's Academy volleybelles aim to bring home back-to-back titles in the girls' division.

The La Sallians aim to preserve their crown against the spikers from St. Joseph's School-La Salle, La Consolacion College-Main, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos-Talisay, Mansilingan Christian Academy, and Jack and Jill Castleson School.
