8 more loose firearms
seized in Neg. Occ
Eight more unlicensed firearms and ammunition were
seized in Manapla and Ilog towns and Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental,
as the police further intensified their campaign against the proliferation
of loose firearms.
This brought to 23 the number of guns accounted
for by the Negros Occidental police and the Criminal Investigation
and Detection Group since the start of the year, police records
show.
Armed with search warrants issued by Judge Evelyn
Gengos, operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Task Force, in
coordination with a team of policemen led by Inspector Fructuso
Lim, simultaneously swooped down on the houses of Joemarie Beboso
and Jimmy Benasa in Brgys. Santa Teresa and Mesa, Manapla, on Sunday.
The raid at the residence of Beboso yielded a
homemade shotgun with two bullets and a .45 caliber pistol, assorted
ammunition and empty shells of various firearms, a fan knife, two
bladed weapons, and a gun holster.
On the other hand, 27 live bullets for an M-16
assault rifle, M-1 Garand and .30 caliber carbine were also recovered
from the house of Benasa, who eluded arrest, Lim, in his report
to Senior Supt. Charles Calima, police provincial director, said.
Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez also reported the
confiscation of a .22 caliber rifle, a .30 caliber carbine and .45
pistol that were also taken by CIDG operatives led by Inspector
Ramon Palalis from the residence of Kagawad Thelmo Libacao in Brgy.
Andolawan, Ilog.
The police arrested Jerry Yasos and Daniel Moreno
in Kabankalan City, for having a homemade shotgun and .38 caliber
revolver, respectively.
Moreno was creating alarm and scandal when he
was arrested by SPO1 Rene Tuzon at the Kabankalan City public plaza
on Jan. 15, the police said.
Supt. Alex Belonio said they also confiscated
three handguns with bullets from Ricky Murillo, Jojo Tanda and his
brother, Wilfredo, in Brgy. Balingasag, Bago City.
A .38 caliber revolver was also taken from one
of the two arrested suspected highway robbers in La Castellana,
on Saturday.
Twelve guns and a fragmentation grenade were
also accounted for by the police from 13 residents of Valladolid,
Negros Occidental, from Jan. 3 to 7, police records further showed.*GPB

2 more die in road mishap
The death toll involving traffic accidents within
one month in Negros Occidental has risen to nine, as two more persons
died in another collision of vehicles, this time in Brgy. Linao,
Kabankalan City.
Noel Salvador, 31, and his companion, Henry John
Laurico, 16, died after the motorcycle they were riding on collided
with a Fuzo cargo truck on Sunday, the police said.
Police investigations show that Salvador and
Laurico died instantly because of fatal head injuries.
A day before the incident, Martin Pagulong, an
employee of the Moises Padilla - Isabela Municipal Circuit Trial
Court, and his wife, also died after they were ran over by a 10-wheeler
tanker loaded with molasses in Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City.
A certain Arnold Lorza who was riding a cart
being drawn by a carabao, was also killed after being hit by a Nissan
Frontier pick-up vehicle in Brgy. Gargato, Hinigaran on Jan. 16.
On Dec. 20 and 31 last year, a Valladolid couple,
a sexagenarian and a 9-year-old also died in three separate highway
accidents in Brgys. Calumanggan and Taloc, all in Bago City.*GPB
