8 more loose firearms
seized in Neg. Occ

Eight more unlicensed firearms and ammunition were seized in Manapla and Ilog towns and Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental, as the police further intensified their campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.

This brought to 23 the number of guns accounted for by the Negros Occidental police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group since the start of the year, police records show.

Armed with search warrants issued by Judge Evelyn Gengos, operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Task Force, in coordination with a team of policemen led by Inspector Fructuso Lim, simultaneously swooped down on the houses of Joemarie Beboso and Jimmy Benasa in Brgys. Santa Teresa and Mesa, Manapla, on Sunday.

The raid at the residence of Beboso yielded a homemade shotgun with two bullets and a .45 caliber pistol, assorted ammunition and empty shells of various firearms, a fan knife, two bladed weapons, and a gun holster.

On the other hand, 27 live bullets for an M-16 assault rifle, M-1 Garand and .30 caliber carbine were also recovered from the house of Benasa, who eluded arrest, Lim, in his report to Senior Supt. Charles Calima, police provincial director, said.

Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez also reported the confiscation of a .22 caliber rifle, a .30 caliber carbine and .45 pistol that were also taken by CIDG operatives led by Inspector Ramon Palalis from the residence of Kagawad Thelmo Libacao in Brgy. Andolawan, Ilog.

The police arrested Jerry Yasos and Daniel Moreno in Kabankalan City, for having a homemade shotgun and .38 caliber revolver, respectively.

Moreno was creating alarm and scandal when he was arrested by SPO1 Rene Tuzon at the Kabankalan City public plaza on Jan. 15, the police said.

Supt. Alex Belonio said they also confiscated three handguns with bullets from Ricky Murillo, Jojo Tanda and his brother, Wilfredo, in Brgy. Balingasag, Bago City.

A .38 caliber revolver was also taken from one of the two arrested suspected highway robbers in La Castellana, on Saturday.

Twelve guns and a fragmentation grenade were also accounted for by the police from 13 residents of Valladolid, Negros Occidental, from Jan. 3 to 7, police records further showed.*GPB e.
