Nabbed 'snatcher' dies
due to motorcycle fall

A man was arrested when his motorcycle slipped and fell on the road after he snatched a bag of a woman in front of the Silliman University cafeteria Saturday morning but he died from a cracked skull hours later at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

The suspect was identified as Erwin Leguarda, 25, single, of Brgy. Balugo, Valencia.

Before the suspect's arrest, he snatched the bag of victim Zinnia Zuchinni Carino, 21, single, of Taurus Drive in Brgy. Batinguel, Dumaguete, police said.

The victim said she was on the backseat of a motorcycle driven by her younger sister just before noon, when on reaching in front of the cafeteria, Leguarda, on board a blue Honda Wave closed in on them and snatched the shoulder bag on her lap.

The bag contained a Nokia 3650 cellphone costing P13,000 and a white wallet containing P2,500 cash. After getting the bag, the snatcher sped away and turned right to Katada Street but his motorcycle slipped and rolled over.

The two sisters who chased the suspect fell on him and with the help of bystanders effected a citizen's arrest and recovered the stolen bag and its contents. Responding policemen frisked the suspect and found a tiny sachet containing what is believed to be shabu.

At the police station, he was charged with robbery with violence and intimidation of persons and an illegal drug offense.

Hours later, police rushed him to hospital where he died. Hospital diagnosis found a crack in Leguarda's skull.*
