Binalbagan mayor injured,
one dies in road accident
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda, 52, was injured and a man on board a cart being drawn by a carabao was killed in a vehicular accident at Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, at about 5 a.m. yesterday, the police reported.

Aranda, who reportedly suffered from a bump on the forehead, was confined at the Riverside Medical Center yesterday and could not be reached for comment.

A Hinigaran police blotter report said killed in the mishap was Arnold Gumban Lorza, 33, of Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran.

His cart was reportedly hit by a Nissan Frontier pickup owned by the Municipality of Binalbagan where Aranda was riding, which was driven by Luisito Guino-o Nacional, 24, of Bacolod City, and Barangay San Jose, Binalbagan.

The cart and the Nissan Frontier were headed north when "the dazzle of light" coming from an unidentified vehicle approaching them caused the driver of the Nissan to sideswipe the cart that he did not immediately see, the police report said.

Aranda suffered physical injuries while Lorza who was rushed to the Hinigaran Emergency Hospital died, the police report said.

Nacional yesterday was detained by the Hinigaran police.*CPG
