NOVA tourney to
draw big field

About 56 squads are expected to see action in the 16th Annual Negros Occidental Volleyball Association-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championships from Feb. 11 to March 25 at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The teams will be vying for the championships in the 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under and 16-Under divisions.

NOVA president Roger Banzuela said the 16-Under girls' competitions will also serve as the elimination round of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League in Bacolod.

The Shakey's tournaments will be staged in Bacolod, Cebu and Iloilo, but the schedules have yet to be finalized, Banzuela, who is also the president of the Philippine Volleyball Federation, added.

Queen of Peace School is the defending champion in the boys' 10-Under division, while the St. John's Institute brought home the girls' title last year. Snaring the boys' 12-Under crown was Silay City as Bacolod City topped the girls' division.

The USLS spikers are the reigning titlists in the boys' 14-Under hostilities, while the Texters took the crown of the girls' category last year. Taking the boys' 16-under championship was the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, while the EB Magalona volleybelles emerged triumphant in the girls' division.

The registration fee in the 10-Under category is pegged at P800, including a P200 default bond, while the squads that will compete in the 12, 14 and 16-Under categories will have a registration fee of P1,200 with a default bond of P300.

The default bond will be returned to the squads if they will not incur any defaulted game in the tournament, Banzuela said.

Banzuela said interested teams that wish to compete in the tournament may contact him at the USLS Varsity Sports Office at telephone numbers 434-6929 and 432-1185. *CIT
