The Silliman University-World Bank Knowledge for Development Center
is launching assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities Thursday.
These devices from the World Bank, in the form of software
and hardware, are aimed at providing PWDs easy access to information
found in books and the Internet free of charge.
The availability of these devices will make the KDC known as
an accessible center for PWDs.
Later in the afternoon, after the launching, the KDC will
sponsor a training on Assistive Devices and Disabilities Sensitivity.
This will be conducted by Tony Llanes, president of the Adaptive
Technology for the Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment
of the Visually Impaired.
The selected group of participants includes library staff,
guidance counselors, and Special Education teachers from the public
schools.
Expected to grace the launching are Leonora Gonzales, external
relations officer, and Moira Enerva; information officer, of World
Bank-Manila.*
