Teacher, hubby
die in mishap

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The so-called "killer highway" of Bago City claimed two more lives on Saturday, bringing to six the number of commuters killed from Dec. 20 last year to Jan. 14, police records show.

Elementary school teacher Liza Pagulong, 50, and her husband, Martin, 52, died Saturday evening after they were ran over by a 10-wheeler tanker loaded with molasses in Brgy. Sampinit, Bago City.

Police investigations show that Pagulong, riding on an Aura motorcycle driven by her husband, were on their way to Moises Padilla from Bacolod City, when the accident took place.

Supt. Alex Belonio, Bago police chief, yesterday said the motorcycle accidentally hit the left front tires of the molasses tanker driven by Samuel Caboris.

As result they were ran over by the truck, which led to the death of Martin on the spot, while his wife, a teacher of Guinpana-an Elementary School in Moises Padilla, died while being treated at the Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital in Bacolod City, Belonio said.

On Dec. 20 and 31 last year, a Valladolid couple, a sexagenarian and 9-year-old also died in three separate highway accidents in Brgys. Calumanggan and Taloc, all in Bago City.*GPB
