4 Negros pugs waiting
for mayors' incentives

MANILA --- Two Negrense boxers who won gold medals in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod City said Saturday they are still waiting for the incentives promised by two city mayors after their triumph in the biennial meet last year.

Talisay City-born pug Joan Tipon, the SEA Games bantamweight champion, said he and pinweight gold medalist Juanito Magliquian have yet to receive the P20,000 incentive committed by Mayor Anthony Lizares.

Lady boxer Mitchel Martinez, who hails from Pulupandan before moving to Bacolod in the 1990s, said she is waiting word from the Bacolod Mayor's Office as to when she will get her bonus promised her by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

USLS sportsfest opens

The College of Education is aiming for its third straight cheering title shortly after the 9 a.m. opening of the University of St. La Salle Sportsfest 2006 at the USLS Coliseum in Bacolod City today.

Six colleges will be vying for the titles in 19 disciplines with athletes from the College of Business and Accountancy eyeing for their fourth consecutive overall championship.

Aside from the Education players, CBA will also be challenged by athletes from the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Law and Medicine.

Oddsmakers favor Morales

Barely a week before the monumental rematch of Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales in Las Vegas, at least three reliable online betting websites have placed their odds in favor of the Mexican legend and are expecting the fight to go the distance.

Odds in the online betting website www.pinnaclesports.com favor Morales with a minimum bet of $111 for the Mexican netting $100, while gambling for a Pacquiao win meant that you will receive $101 for a $100 bet.

The website also indicated that the 12-round fight would go the distance with a minimum bet of $171, getting $100. If the fight ends within 11 and a half rounds, a $100 bet, will net $161.
