PNP of 'bad eggs'

Gov. George Arnaiz has called on the leadership of newly installed Philippine National Police director in Oriental Negros, Sr./Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, to continue purging the "bad eggs" and misfits.

The also warned them of repercussions if found to be in cahoots with drug peddlers and drug personalities.

Arnaiz made the challenge during the courtesy call of all chiefs of police of the province held recently at the PNP provincial headquarters in Agan-an, Sibulan, Oriental Negros.

Malayang new
Silliman U president

The Silliman University Board of Trustees, meeting en banc in Dumaguete City Saturday, has selected Dr. Ben Malayang III as the 12th university president, to replace Dr. Agustin Pulido whose term ends on March 26.

Malayang, 52, emerged as the choice from a field of 16 nominees, after a rigorous selection process which took almost one year.

Malayang, a member of the SU High School Class of 1970, graduated BA Philosophy from the University of the Philippines, MA Philosophy of Science and Ethics from Ohio University, MA in International Affairs from Ohio University, and Ph.D. in Wildland Resource Science from the University of California.

Woman loses P96T
in daylight heist

A 27-year-old woman from Sibulan town now residing in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros, lost about P96,000 in cash and jewelry to robbers in a broad daylight heist in Brgy. Calindagan yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Chaty Cumayao, 27, single, of Purok 5, Barangay Cangmating in Sibulan but residing in Barangay Mangnao, Dumaguete.

Cumayao said she was returning from Sibulan to her boarding house in Mangnao at past 3 p.m. yesterday on the backseat of a motorcycle driven by a friend.
