City gov't willing to hear
appeal of market tenants

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia Friday said the city is willing to listen to the appeal of the vendors at the Vendor's Plaza but they should follow the policies of the city.

Thirty-two vendors, who claim to be actual occupants of the Vendor's Plaza at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City, had asked the city to hold in abeyance the implementation of the notice issued by the Office of the City Administrator Thursday, declaring all stalls, blocks or tables abandoned and automatically revoking lease to such.

Leonardia said he believes the Market Committee is making a step towards the right direction. "If we have to put order at the Vendors' Plaza, we have to start from the beginning," he said.

Leonardia said he met with some of the vendors last week and he told them that the Market Committee will thoroughly study the matter. He said the vendors can re-apply.

City Administrator Lorendo Dilag said the Market Committee will issue within this week the criteria for those who want to apply for a block or stall at the Vendors' Plaza. He said the city does not want the Vendors' Plaza abandoned, but want it occupied by qualified awardees.*CGS
