PSDO to present
proposed budget

The Negros Occidental Provincial Sports and Development Office will present its 2006 budget proposal to the Provincial Government for its mass-based sports program at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia today.

The P60,000 budget proposal will be presented by Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the PSDO, as all Provincial Government officials will have a meeting at the resort.

The P60,000 allocation will be used to fund the provincial mass-based sports program of the PSDO that includes swimming, athletics and boxing, De Oro said. De Oro is also pushing for the inclusion of taekwondo and table tennis in this year's grassroots project that would also mean a higher budget proposal for the program.

If the Provincial Government, headed by Gov. Joseph Maraņon, will approve the inclusion of table tennis and taekwondo, the PSDO will present another budget, De Oro said.

The local sports agency launched its boxing, swimming and athletics programs last year in the cities of Sagay, Cadiz, Kabankalan, Escalante, Talisay and Ilog town, which were willing to fund the provincial mass-based sports project. De Oro said the PSDO gave importance to these three disciplines since they are where the Negrenses really excel.

Negros produced four Southeast Asian Games gold medalists --- lady pugilist Mitchel Martinez of Bago and Bacolod City, Talisay boxers Joan Tipon and Juanito Magliquian, and Cauayan-born Arniel Ferrera, SEA games record holder in men's hammer throw ---through the grassroots project. *CIT
