'B' sugar further increases

Domestic sugar prices increased further on bidding in Negros Occidental yesterday.

Enrique Rojas, National Federation of Sugarcane Planters president, said "B" or domestic sugar sold at P1,097 per Lkg and "A" or US market sugar at P1,051 per Lkg.

At Hawaiian Philippines Co. "B" sold at P1,085.82 and "A" at P1,098.92.

Franklin Fuentebella, chairman of the Planters Association of Southern Negros cooperative, said at the Binalbagan Isabela Sugar Co. sugar sold at P1,092 up P94 for "B" and at P1,050 up P15 for "A".

He said the P1,097 per Lkg for "B" at VMC was up P77 from last week.

Manuel Lamata, United Sugar Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc. president, said UNIFED sold its "B" at P1,096.89 per Lkg and it's "A" at P1,099.59.

The Binalbagan Isabela Planters Association sold its sugar at P1,092 for "B" and P1,080 at "A", its president Enrique Montilla said.

Sugar Regulatory Administrator James Ledesma said a meeting will have to be held with leaders of the sugar industry to decide when to release sugar still being held in reserve amounting to about 40,000 tons.*CPG
