RP LADIES OPEN
Piccio moves up;
Tanpinco struggles

Bacoleņa Mia Piccio moved to a three-way tie for 12th place in the RP Ladies Open yesterday, after shooting a 4-over 75 at the windswept Manila Golf Club.

Piccio, 14, followed up her opening-round 79 Wednesday with nines of 37-38 for a two-round aggregate of 154, ten shots adrift of pacesetter Debbie De Villa, who took the lead from Frances Bondad with a par-matching 71 yesterday.

The 15-year-old De Villa, who shot a 73 on Wednesday, holds a one-stroke lead over second-running Korean Seo Jae Lee, who fired a 72 yesterday for a 145 total. Bondad is in a two-player tie for third, after submitting a 75 for a 146 aggregate.

While Piccio, who finished second to Bondad in the Philippine Women's Amateurs, played better in the second round, Anya Tanpinco struggled at the long layout, soaring to an 81 (156) that placed her in 14th place heading into the final round today.

Piccio, of St. John's Institute, three-putted the second hole for a bogey, before canceling out another bogey in the par 5 seventh with a difficult birdie putt on the No. 8 for a one-over 37 in the front nine. After three-putting No. 10 for a double bogey and birdying the par 4 13th, Piccio could not find her rhythm, finishing with a bogey-bogey string on the 15th and 16th holes to end up tied with former winner Carmelette Villaroman and Crystal Superal. *CPT
