Pag-Ibig grants P317M;
13% short of '05 target

The Pag-Ibig Fund Bacolod Branch released a total of P317.290 million in housing loans last year to its members who have availed of 941 house and lot units.

The housing agency, however, only reached 86.88 percent of its target loan releases for 2005. Last year, it set aside P365.198 million for financing of 1,207 accounts. Only 77.96 percent of the total target was financed.

Mary Ann Fruylan, officer-in-charge of Mortgage Loans Division, said that Pag-Ibig Fund uses as basis for their annual goals the funding commitments sought by housing developers. Thus, if the developers could not reach their targets for the year, their agency will also will suffer a shortfall.

City gov't urging businessmen:
Renew permits before deadline

The Permits and Licenses Division of the Bacolod City Mayor's Office is encouraging taxpayers to renew their business permits on time to avoid penalties.

Division chief Ardis Jaculina yesterday said the deadline for the renewal of Mayor's or business permits is on January 20, although by tradition, it is usually extended to Jan. 31 with the approval of the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod, without surcharges or interest. Taxpayers who fail to renew their business permits after the deadline will be charged a 25 percent surcharge, she said.

More call center
jobs in 2006

The call center industry in the Philippines is seen to generate more jobs for the Filipino workers this year, the Department of Labor and Employment said in a press release.

Labor Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas said that locally, the highest number of jobs recorded are in the call center industry, adding that at the start of 2006, the DOLE has received a request for about 7,500 people to work in call center.

Bureau of Investments estimates indicate that about 112,000 Filipinos are now working in call centers in the country which brought in more than $1 billion in revenues in 2005, the press release said.
