Students mull complaints
versus owner of fireworks

A student from Negros Oriental State University and two from Saint Paul University of Dumaguete were expected to file complaints with the police against a fireworks owner and a local university, following a freak accident during a fireworks display.

Six students from different schools in Dumaguete sustained burns, and three of them were hospitalized when a tube containing firecrackers fell, turned upside down, propelled itself towards the spectators and burst into flames, causing injuries to several.

The fireworks display was done by the Anisan Fireworks owned by Susan Lebrilla of Sibulan.

Giles Flores, 18, student of Negros Oriental State University sustained second-degree burns. He was billed P92,868.01 for 21 days in the Holy Child Hospital, aside from the medicines purchased by Foundation University.

Also hospitalized were Christina Verganio, 21 of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, and Geraldine Castaņares, 18, from Mabinay, all students of Saint Paul University who witnessed the closing program of the founders day of Foundation University on December 17, 2005.

Verganio had a partial assessment from the hospital for P13,000.

All the victims want to know who will shoulder their hospital expenses.

Three others who sustained minor burns in different parts of their body are John Anthony Tuballa, of Foundation University, April Arabe and Dianne Pajunar of SPUD.*
