Juvic stays in
contention for 'Tour' spot

Negrense hotshot Juvic Pagunsan shot a 71 yesterday in the first round morning session of the Asian Tour Qualifying School final stage at the Palm Resort Golf and Country Club's Allamanda Course in Senai, Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The 71 placed Pagunsan in an 11-player logjam at 28th place as the Southeast Asian Games gold medalist stayed in contention for the 40 tour cards at stake in the qualifying event. Also firing a 71 was Filipino Benjie Magada.

All 217 players will have to play both the Allamanda and Cempaka courses and only the top 100 and ties after round two make it to the third round on Friday.

Brad Kennedy of Australia got off to a solid start, taking the first round morning session with an impressive 10-under-par 62 as countryman Robin James Hodgetts trailed in second by three strokes. *CPT
