PD mulls
reshuffling of police chiefs

A reshuffling of police station commanders in Oriental Negros is now being mulled, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon, Philippine National Police provincial director, said.

Ramon said this was after he made rounds of police stations, and saw the need for reassignments of chiefs of police, to improve the delivery of services to Negrenses.

Buenafe said even he himself has no deputy to take over every time he is out of the province. He said the transfer some officers would not mean disrupting the programs initiated by their predecessors.

Buenafe clarified, though, that commanders with good performances will be retained. He, however, refused to comment on the controversial Reward System Ordinance of the Dumaguete City government that will extend financial rewards to murderers who reveal the identities of their masterminds.

The ordinance authored by Councilor Saleto Erames has been declared invalid by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Buenafe said he does not have a copy of the measure, although he pointed out that the scheme is not new.

He cited the police "Magic Eye Operation" which gives monetary reward to individuals who give vital criminal information to the police.*JG
