Philippine Volleyball Federation president Roger Banzuela yesterday
asked the Philippine Sports Commission to pay its remaining accounts
with Balay Kalinungan, a dormitory inside the University of St.
La Salle campus, that had accommodated some Filipino athletes who
saw action in the Bacolod City Southeast Asian Games.
In his letter to PSC chairman William Ramirez, Banzuela asked
the sports executive to fast-track the payment to the management
of Balay Kalinungan that still has P148,400 in collectibles from
the PSC for the billeting of the Philippine men and women's beach
and indoor volleyball squads, as well as the Filipino boxers.
The beach volleyball players and coaches stayed at the Balay
Kalinungan from Nov. 15 to Dec. 5, while the men and women's indoor
volleyball teams were housed at the facility from Nov. 21 to Dec.
5. The Filipino pugilists were also billeted there.
The PSC promised to settle its accounts before the SEA Games
closed but this did not materialize, Banzuela said, adding that
there should be an allocation for the account.
The PSC should pay its debts as soon as possible because some
of the employees of the Balay Kalinungan are not under the payroll
of USLS and they get their wages from the earnings of the facility,
he said. *CIT s
