The birthday of Ceres

Ceres Yanson Magadia has always celebrated her birthday at her lovely home but the erratic weather made daughter Mai Paltriguera decide to organize the affair recently at the Grand Ballroom of Business Inn, in Bacolod City.

Guests came in black and white attire. Red, blue, yellow and white balloons were in place. The celebrator, wearing a red gown by Lourdes Lipa, escorted by her husband, Manuel Magadia Sr., entered the ballroom and were met by well-wishers, their employees and their family members. Kulay Pikata belted out songs to entertain the guests.

Thirty-two tables were designated and named after the celebrator's favorites, like the lanzones, bromeliads and euphorbias, which she collects, travel, her way of bonding with families; lamayo especially kara-ho; dalandan juice, her latest craze; daily Mass which starts her day; antiques which she loves to collect; and peanuts, her "kutkut" time.

After dinner, grandchildren rendered special numbers. Raymund Lacson, JM Patriguerra did a rap, Mel Yanson, Carissa Dumancas and the Ramos twins a song and dance number, and a song by Doc Bong.

She then blew out the 20 candles on each of the three cakes given by her "apos".

The children -- Dr. Bong and Mai, Manuel "Toto" Jr. and Helen -- and the employees and their families sang "Happy Birthday" to the celebrator for the finale.

Manny and Ceres M. started the dancing and everyone followed, with the Checkmates providing the music.*

Remember: "Offer thanks to God for always staying near you."
