P1.7M needed for WV
campaign in nat'l Prisaa

About P1.7 million will be needed to fund the campaign of the Western Visayas contingent in the National Private Schools and Athletics Association Games in Dagupan, Western Visayas PRISAA athletic manager Roger Banzuela said yesterday.

The bulk of the budget will cover the transportation expenses estimated at P976,500, while the remaining allocation will be used for the food, accommodation and uniform of the Region VI athletes and officials, Banzuela, who also serves as chairman of the Western Visayas PRISAA technical committee, said.

The budget proposal, which was agreed upon by the Region VI PRISAA technical group during a meeting in Iloilo over the weekend, will be presented to the Western Visayas board of directors, he added.

Around 213 athletes and officials will compose the Region VI delegation that brought home the overall championship of the National PRISAA Games in Zamboanga City last year.

The national event is supposed to be staged from Feb. 5 to 11, but there is a big possibility that it will be moved in April because the Commission on Higher Education suggests that all school-based competitions will be held during breaks, Banzuela said.

A memorandum regarding the deadline of submission of entries and final calendar of events among others has yet to be mailed with less than a month before the desired schedule, he added.

The National PRISAA board has set a meeting on Jan. 14 in Manila to finalize the schedule of the hostilities, he said, adding that Fr. Emilio Jaruda, Western Visayas PRISAA president, will represent Region VI.

Negros will send its squads in men's chess, basketball, lawn tennis, and sepak takraw, women's swimming, taekwondo and volleyball, and its table tennis teams in the men and women's category to see action in the national tournament.

These teams will compete with the Region VI contingent after emerging victorious in the Western Visayas PRISAA Games in Bacolod City last month, Banzuela said.

Men's football, however, which was also ruled by Negros will most likely not be included in the national tilt since it has not been included in the line-up of disciplines last year, he added.
