Cops cry 'harassment'
versus 61st IB troopers

The Philippine National Police in Bais City and Manjuyod town were reportedly harassed by some troopers of the 61st Infantry Battalion due to an incident on Dec. 26, 2005.

On board their 6 x 6 truck, army troopers in full battle gear allegedly barged into the police station Sunday looking for the police officers who flagged them down while they were conducting a checkpoint on that day, the anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New Army.

Initial investigations showed that the army men were offended when they were flagged down.

CPP-NPA 'strength' in
Negros Island revealed

Six guerilla units of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army are operating in the entire Negros Island, Philippine National Police provincial director, Sr. Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe. said yesterday.

Buenafe said three of the Larangan Guerilla fronts are in the Oriental side and the remaining ones are in Negros Occidental.

The Larangan Guerilla 1, which is operating from Canlaon City down to La Libertad town has an estimated strength of 29 armed members and 130 CPP members.

SEAG medalists get
citation from city, too

After being given recognition by the Oriental Negros provincial government, Negrense athletes who reaped medals in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games held in the country recently, were also given plaques of recognition by the Dumaguete City government.

At least five of the 23rd SEAGames silver and gold medalists hail from Dumaguete City, in the province.

They are Joey Barba who bagged a silver medal in the mountain bike downhill event, archers Jennifer Chan, Joan Chan-Tabaņag and Mark Javier who also won gold and silver medals, and swimmer Michael Jorolan who brought home a silver medal in the waterpolo team event.
