SEAG medalists get
citation from city, too

After being given recognition by the Oriental Negros provincial government, Negrense athletes who reaped medals in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games held in the country recently, were also given plaques of recognition by the Dumaguete City government.

At least five of the 23rd SEAGames silver and gold medalists hail from Dumaguete City, in the province.

They are Joey Barba who bagged a silver medal in the mountain bike downhill event, archers Jennifer Chan, Joan Chan-Tabaņag and Mark Javier who also won gold and silver medals, and swimmer Michael Jorolan who brought home a silver medal in the waterpolo team event.

Others who won gold medals are Maridel Manaban, a volleyball varsity team member of Foundation University, Miolle Gabiligno, and Maristela Torres of San Jose.

Perdices said the city could not match the financial incentives given by the province to the athletes. He said he thought of giving them plaques of recognition, instead.*JG
