The Professional Regulations Commission board will take up today
the request of Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella for an explanation
on why the board examination results of more than 400 West Negros
College nursing students has not been released, the solon said yesterday.
The WNC students took the examinations in December but have
not learned whether they passed. The results of other board takers,
including a few from WNC, have already been released.
Some WNC students and Ernesto Arbolario, WNC vice president
for external affairs, had sought Puentevella's help in hastening
the release of the board exam results.
WNC College of Nursing Department dean Zenaida Hilado is also
being asked to present WNC's position before the PRC board on Jan.
13, Puentevella said.
Arbolario said about 530 WNC nursing graduates took the nursing
board exams in December but only a few have their results released,
so far.
Arbolario has said WNC is confident many of its nursing students
passed the board exams, pointing out that, in the list already released,
their graduate Francis Teh was the 8th placer.
Lily Ann Baldago, regional director of PRC, earlier said a
random investigation of academic records of WNC nursing graduates
showed that there has been "academic overloading," or some students
have been taking more academic courses than were allowed.
The permit from the PRC to take the nursing licensure examination
is conditional, Baldago said. One is allowed to take the examinations
but if there are discrepancies in the documents submitted, the examination
is cancelled after a fair hearing, she said. *CPG
