100 % land distribution
achieved in 2005: DAR

The Department of Agrarian Reform office in Oriental Negros has barely two years to complete the distribution lands covered by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program to the farmers.

Out of the targeted 89,000 hectares of land, the provincial agrarian reform office is left with only more than 12,000 hectares to be distributed in the next two years.

Of the 12,000 hectares, 4,244 hectares were distributed in 2005 or a 100 percent achievement, provincial agrarian reform officer Stephen Leonidas said.

Power consumers get
'temporary' reprieve

Consumers reeling from the rising costs of energy particularly with the imposition of the value added tax on power generation and gasoline may enjoy a reprieve from another round of electricity rate increases, at least temporarily.

This came after the Energy Regulatory Commission indefinitely suspended the petition of the National Transmission Corporation to increase its "wheeling rate", Elmar Agir, of the ERC, and a native of Oriental Negros, said recently.

Agir said the ERC is still reviewing the draft determination of Transco's "wheeling rate" before it will be subjected to public consultations, evidentiary hearings and thorough evaluation.

Ceres bus held up

Two unidentified men held up a Ceres bus and its passengers early Thursday morning along the national highway in Brgy. Malusay, Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, the police said.

Investigations showed the suspects took away four cellphones, more than P3,000 in cash from the passengers, and an undetermined amount from the fare collection that day.

Passengers and the conductor of the bus with body number 7106 described the hold-uppers as being in their 20's.
