Bais City eyes free
water for residents

The city government of Bais is planning to extend free drinking water to its constituents by purchasing purifying equipment worth P2 million.

Bais City Mayor Hector Villanueva said he hopes to realize the project this year to solve the problem of the need for a potable drinking water source in his city.

He said funds for the equipment will be taken from the 20 percent development fund. He said he is optimistic that the city council will approve the proposal.

The "ozonizer" will be placed near the source at the Tinaan-Panalaan spring where the public may fetch their drinking water, the mayor said.

Villanueva explained that this will not compete with the existing water district in Bais because this will be provided for free to everybody.

On the other hand, Villanueva said he is optimistic about the passage of the city's budget for 2006 of P226 million.

He said majority of the city council members understand the importance of the passage, but two or three of them have opposed the measure.*JG
