Brgy 35 head passes away

Raymundo "Lando" Sapa, barangay captain of Brgy. 35, Bacolod City, passed away Wednesday night after a bout with liver ailment at the Bacolod Doctors' Hospital, his family said.

Sapa, who was born in Escalante City on March 15, 1938, is survived by his wife, Lucina Bacuado, and their seven children.

He went on leave three months ago when he became seriously ill.

Kagawad Enrique Sevilla has taken over his duties since then.

Aside from being a public servant, Sapa was known as the host of "Wanted: Pangga" (Sweetheart) over DyRL, a program which allows young men and women searching for prospective mates to talk to each other on-the-air and then set a date to meet each other in person.

He made the program popular in the 80's, Renee Brillantes, current DyRL station manager, said. Sapa was the radio station's manager before he was elected barangay captain in 1994.

He also served as OIC barangay captain in 1986 and also as kagawad.

Local officials, led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, expressed their sympathies to the Sapa family.

"Bacolod and Brgy. 35, in particular, will never forget a faithful servant who spent 23 years in public service. The City Government, officials and employees, express appreciation for his faithful service," Leonardia said in a statement.

Brgy. Captain El Cid Familiarian of Brgy. 13 said Sapa, a close friend of Councilor Catalino Alisbo, was a man of principle and that even until his death, he was concerned about the welfare of his constituents.

Sapa's remains lie in state at their family residence at Cameroli Avenue, Bacolod City. Interment schedule will be announced later.*NLG/CGS
