The Negros Occidental Provincial Sports and Development Office
will hold a swimming seminar in Sagay City this month as a preparation
for its provincial mass-based sports program in 2006.
The Sagay City local government, through its sports coordinator
Benson Fernandez, will sponsor the seminar, and PSDO will provide
the technical expertise, Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the
PSDO, said.
De Oro said the Sagay City local government will gather the
swimming aspirants willing to attend the seminar, while the PSDO
will choose the resource speaker.
Swimming was part of the disciplines launched by the PSDO's
provincial mass-based sports program last year as well as athletics
and boxing with a P60,000 budget.
The PSDO is also planning to include taekwondo and table tennis
in this year's grassroots project. The proposal will be presented
on Jan. 14 when the Provincial Government officials meet at the
Mambukal Resort in Murcia.
The PSDO also hopes to retain the P60,000 allocation for this
year, but in case the taekwondo and table tennis activities will
be approved, the budget will be increased, De Oro said.
He said that the PSDO is also supporting the whole-year round
boxing program of Escalante City, spearheaded by Mayor Santiago
Barcelona.
The grassroots project was launched in the cities of Kabanklan,
Sagay, Bago and Escalante last year, and in Ilog town. *CIT
