Area III batters prevail,
boosts delegation to 2nd

Area III, bannered by Talisay City clouters, demolished Area IV, 5-1, yesterday to keep its secondary baseball crown in the Palarong Panlalawigan at the Bacolod City National High School ballfield.

The successful title defense of the Talisay batters was equivalent to 25 points giving Area III a total of 213 markers and the first runner-up place in the overall championship race in the secondary division, behind Area IV that accumulated 270.5 points.

The Narciso Jayme-mentored Area III squad clobbered Area IV, 17-3, last Dec. 21 to forge a winner-take-all championship showdown.

The sudden death match was only held yesterday because of the wet field conditions caused by the rainy season that made the ballfield unavailable, the Department of Education said.

The victorious campaign of the Talisay clouters also catapulted Area III past Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Area VIII) that had 210 points.

Area III finished its campaign with an impressive 4-1 slate.

Composing the Area III batters were Sandy Benddian, Abraham Bolivas, Oberjay Dayon, Roberto Discutido, Jonathan Jerota, Argel Kasulhay, Lloyd Layson, Jojo Magselang, James Posadas, Mark Posadas, Mark Santillan, Kim Rey Tingson and Edson Torreņa.

Area III, the 2004 Palarong Pambansa overall champion in the secondary division, also brought home the titles in the secondary division of boys and girls' volleyball and sepak takraw.

Area III, represented by athletes from Talisay, Silay, Murcia and Victorias, finished fourth in the elementary category with 125.5 points. *CIT
