Land row violence unlikely
in NegOr, Region 7 -- DAR

A land conflict similar to what had happened at Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac is unlikely to occur in Oriental Negros and Central Visayas, Ester Nadela, chief of the legal assistance division of the regional office of the Department of Agrarian Reform, said yesterday.

Landowners in the region have no stock distribution option with farm workers unlike that of the Cojuangco-owned Hacienda Luisita, Nadela said.

In Oriental Negros, Cebu, and Bohol, she said, landowners and farmers are "more civil".

New PD drums up

The threat of terrorism is real and is just around the corner, newly installed Philippine National Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, said at a media briefing yesterday at the Plaza Ma. Luisa Suites Inn, Dumaguete City.

Buenafe, with Intelligence chief SPO4 Hilbert Arinaza briefed members of the Dumaguete Press Club and the Negros Oriental public information officers on the intricacies and the different facets of terrorism during a half-day forum.

City Southbound terminal opens;
drivers, passengers complaining

After a lull of one year, the City Traffic Management Office implemented Wednesday the Integrated Southbound Terminal System ordinance in Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City.

The implementation was met with less resistance from the concerned transport groups, except for the passengers who complained of inconvenience in going to the site of the new terminal.

TMO personnel Danny Atillo said all pre-departure areas for southbound public utility jeepneys were pulled out starting Wednesday to decongest the city streets.
