Senior citizens laud guv

Senior citizens in Oriental Negros thanked Gov. George Arnaiz for promoting their welfare by implementing the Senior Citizens Act of 2003.

Arnaiz received the plaudits during the oath-taking ceremony of the new set of officers of the Federation of Senior Citizen Association of the Philippines Negros Oriental chapter Tuesday morning at Plaza Maria Luisa Suite Inn, where he was the guest speaker.

Gerardo Garcia, vice president of FSCAP- Negros Oriental chapter, told his colleagues from the different cities and towns in the province that the implementation of the new law was "successful".

Garcia said the governor's support to them showed his commitment to help the senior citizens and Arnaiz also encouraged them to work to uplift their status.

Alicia Legarde, provincial social welfare officer, who was also a guest at the ceremony, said the province would continue to support the senior citizens through her office, which is coordinating the implementation of the program. Legarde said the Senior Citizens Act of 2003, or Republic Act No. 7432, urges local governments to follow the spirit of the law in implementing the different activities for senior citizens.*RG
