After a lull of one year, the City Traffic Management Office implemented
Wednesday the Integrated Southbound Terminal System ordinance in
Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City.
The implementation was met with less resistance from the
concerned transport groups, except for the passengers who complained
of inconvenience in going to the site of the new terminal.
TMO personnel Danny Atillo said all pre-departure areas for
southbound public utility jeepneys were pulled out starting Wednesday
to decongest the city streets.
PUJ drivers, however, claimed they have been unfairly treated
when they were transferred to the Bagacay terminal, while Ceres
buses continue to use their terminal in Barangay Calindagan, about
two kilometers from the new site.
They also cried injustice against officials for allowing another
transport group to use a rented lot closer to the poblacion area
as their private terminal, which, they said, has unduly prejudiced
their operation.
PUJ operators plying the Dumaguete-Dauin and vice versa route
said, if the terminal problem is not resolved, it will affect their
means of livelihood.
Passengers, on the other hand, aired their inconvenience in
going to the Bagacay terminal, aside from the additional expense.
Students are complaining as well.
TMO sources said decongesting traffic of the central district
outweighs all other concerns, which is being addressed in the ordinance.
PUJ drivers have also raised a concern of lack of water in
the comfort room and the lack of other amenities in the terminal.
Drivers of another transport group called the United Transport
Organization of the South have rented a private lot away from the
Integrated Southbound terminal in order to avoid confrontation with
other transport groups.
But if told to go back to the designated terminal, they said they
will have to decide as a group.*JG
