Western Visayas will get 3,850 metric tons of the
iron-fortified rice being imported by the National Food Authority
from Vietnam.
The supply is part of the 100,000 MTs contracted
by the government, of which 34,100 MTs were unloaded in various
ports in the country starting yesterday.
Within the week, a total of 15,800 MTs will be
unloaded separately in Iloilo, Davao, Poro Point and La Union,
NFA data shows.
In Manila, being unloaded are 7,000 MTs; Tabaco,
Albay, 6,700 MTs; Cagayan de Oro, 3,600 MTs; Subic, 10,800 MTs;
and Cebu, 6,000 MTs. 


Training
on
muscovado production set
The Sugar Regulatory Administration, through its
Outreach Program for the Sugar Industry, will hold a seminar on
"Muscovado Sugar Production" at Balay OPSI in La Granja, La Carlota
City on Jan. 11 to 13, a press release from SRA said.
The program will be a combination of lecture, discussion
and practical demonstration aimed to enrich knowledge and skills
in sugarcane growing.
Updated technologies will be introduced to widen
participants' knowledge in producing quality muscovado, the press
release said. 


Preference
for OFWs
increases in 2005: DOLE
The Department of Labor and Employment said in a
statement yesterday that the demand for overseas Filipino workers
surged in 2005.
Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas said that total number
of overseas employment contracts processed for the OFWs reached
981,337 from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2005, or 39,615 higher than the
941,722 processed in the same period in 2004.
Sto. Tomas said in the statement that gains in
the global scene have been achieved as the government relentlessly
campaigned against illegal recruitment and human trafficking and
pushed to improve the welfare and protection of OFWs worldwide.
