The Mag-aso Falls Mountain Resort in Brgy. Oringao,
Kabankalan City, will be officially opened Saturday with Edgardo
Acuņa (2nd district, Negros Occidental), chairman of the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan Committee on Tourism, as guest of honor, a press release
from the city government said yesterday.
A program at the resort at 10 a.m. will be attended
by Mayor Pedro Zayco, Vice Mayor Raul Rivera and members of the
city council, it said.
The Mag-aso resort is located 22 kilometers from
the poblacion and was developed by the city government under the
administration of Zayco to be one of its major tourist attractions.
The other resort in the city is the Balicaocao Highland Resort in
Brgy. Orong.
To add color to the opening is the pictorial
of the 14 candidates in the search for Sinulog Queen 2006, one of
the highlights of the Kabankalan Sinulog Festival that will start
also on Saturday, the press release said.
Joining the candidates will be members of the
Camera Club of Bacolod who will take their photographs with the
falls as background. The photographers will select the Miss Photogenic
among the candidates. Another title at stake for the contestants
is the "Diwata Sang Mag-aso".
Among the major attractions of the Mag-aso resort
are its mini-falls and the 75-foot main falls that drop into a clear
pool.
The resort now has a viewing deck, concrete steps
and a Japanese bridge. Cottages will soon be constructed for overnight
guests, Mayor Zayco said in the press release.*

making
tilt winner named
Mario Stephen Regollo of Homesite, Brgy. Montevista,
Bacolod City won the first prize in the Greenwich Parol Making Contest
held Dec. 1 to 20, 2005 at Robinson's Place Bacolod.
Regollo received P5,000 in cash while Joshua
Lazarte, who was second, received P3,000 in cash. Third was Michael
John Balinas who received P2,000 in cash. The winners, including
Mark John Maquimay and Edmund Sabolo, who won consolation prizes,
all received trial cards for Sisig Pizza. The criteria for judging
included creativity - 40 percent, use of indigenous materials -
30 percent, relevance to the theme - 10 percent and customers vote
- 10 percent.
The ten winners for customer's choice were Medardo
Armigos, Ma. Leny Panganiban, Mara Ubas, Remedios Velez, Mila Panganiban,
Jenalyn Beloria, Roselle Grijaldo, Orselyn Locsin, Cerissa Jan Docto

Indigent
children get gifts
A Christmas gift-giving and feeding activity called
"Share a Love Project" was conducted by the Asian College of Aeronautics-Bacolod
administration and its Reserve Officer Training Corpse cadets and
cadettes, for indigent children of Bacolod City, at the Negros Occidental
High School Social Hall, in the city, recently.
About 65 children and their parents availed of
gifts in the program held in support of the Bacolod Philippine Air
Force Reservists, a press release from the school said yesterday.
The project was spearheaded by Jonathan Palma, school
president, and Sgt. Joseph Kit Marcela, airman-in-charge of the
corpse of officers, the press release also said.*

'Blessed
to be Catholic'
at Sacred Heart Jan. 18
An event called "Blessed to be Catholic: Experiencing
the Fullness of the One True Faith" featuring Catholic convert Steve
Ray will be sponsored by the newly formed Commission on Lay Associations
of the Diocese of Bacolod, Jan.18, at the Sacred Heart Seminary
Cultural Auditorium, in Bacolod City.
Ray is a world-renowned Catholic author and defender
of the faith, and who was previously a believer of Evangelical Protestantism,
a press release from lay project coordinator, Jimmy Montalvo, said
yesterday.
The event will be for the benefit of the Diocese
of Bacolod, the press release added.*
