Investments in Negros Occidental in the first 11 months of 2005
hit P11.185 billion, records of the provincial office of the Department
of Trade and Industry show.
The figure, based on investments generated through business
name registrations from January to November last year, indicate
a strong upsurge compared to 2004's, which totaled only P3.669 billion.
DTI-Negros Occidental registers businesses under the industry,
services, and agriculture, fishery and forestry sectors.
The industry sector, which includes mining and quarrying, construction,
and manufacturing, posted P674.249 million in total investments
during the 11-month period.
Businesses under manufacturing are: chemicals and related
products, P559.815 million; concrete products, P13.679 million;
fireworks, P428,900; furniture, P4.797 million; garments, P3.4 million;
gifts, toys and housewares, P1.588 million; metalworks, P15.129
million; mineral processing, P894,812; processed food and beverage,
P25.450 million; and other similar trades, P7.929 million.
Manufacturing alone made P633.954 in total investments from
January to November while construction, P35.954 million, and mining
and quarrying, P5.180 million.
Investments in the services sector totaled P10.483 billion,
with trading/ retailing posting the highest, at P9.2 billion.
Others are generated from transportation, communication and
storage, P95.343 million; finance/ pawnshop, P272.163 million; dwelling/real
estate, P606.300 million; private professional service, P286.669
million; and other similar businesses, P22.628 million.
The agriculture, fishery and forestry sector posted P27.076 million,
