A celebration aimed at promoting both trade and tourism
will be held by the Negros Tsinoy community, in cooperation with
the Bacolod City government, to usher in the Chinese New Year, the
Year of the Fiery Dog, Feb. 3 and 4, at the Bacolod City public
plaza.
A press release from the group said yesterday
that the celebration will feature a Night Market to showcase the
arts, crafts, souvenirs and Chinese food products; Chopsticks Alley
where the public can dine and enjoy the flavors of China; a cultural
parade, a fusion of Chinese Ethnic dances choreographed with lions
and dragons, the Bacolod MassKara Festival dancers and the La Carlota
City drumbeaters; and a fireworks show that will cap the event,
the press release said.
The project is spearheaded by the Negros Tsinoy
- a confederation of Filipino-Chinese organizations in Bacolod -
and led by Fred Barcelona who is supported by James Chua, president
of the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Inc.; Carlos Ganihong - chief, Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade; and
Adolfo Lim - president, Southern Negros Filipino-Chinese Chamber
of Commerce and Industry, among others.
