women's football dev't

The Philippine Football Federation yesterday vowed to give greater attention to women's football in the country even as it agreed to mobilize soccer godfather across the country to help in implementing PFF programs.

In a statement, PFF president Johnny Romualdez said the football body resolved to promote women's football not only through its programs but also getting the representatives of this sector to join the operations side of the PFF.

Romualdez said football is undergoing tremendous development in the Philippines, citing the admission of seven new football associations as regular members and four probationary members to the PFF during the football Congress and Board of Governors meeting in Iloilo City Saturday.

Dizon chess event
attracts 200 players

About 200 woodpushers have confirmed their entry in the 1st JRR Dizon Foundation Age-Group Chess Tournament from March 4 to 5 at the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The competitors will be vying for titles in the elementary boys and girls', and secondary boys and girls' categories of the event that is sponsored by the JRR Dizon Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Raymundo R. Dizon Jr. Memorial Foundation and the Chess Players Federation of Negros.

Eleuterio Capistrano and Bro. Rolly Dizon, FSC are also principal sponsors of the chess competitions, tournament director Jessie Sanchez said.

Escalante, Victorias
athletes dominate NOTAFA tilt

Escalante City-A and Victorias City seized two team championships each Saturday in the revival of the Negros Occidental Track and Field Association Age-Group Athletics Competition at the Escalante Central Elementary School Oval in Escalante City.

Led by 12-year-old Jesrael Bayotas, the Escalante-A elementary boys' team grabbed 12 golds, four silvers and five bronzes to rule their division, while its elementary girls' squad posted an 8-7-1 medal-haul to bring home the top honors.
