Bacolod resident gets
18 years for homicide
BY DONALYN M. GUERRERO

A Regional Trial Court judge yesterday sentenced a Bacolod resident to 18 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of homicide, for stabbing dead his relative in Bacolod City, on Feb. 27 last year.

Judge Gorgonio Ybañez of the RTC, Branch 48 yesterday meted Emidio Sampilo Cauba 12 years and one day to 18 years of reclusion temporal for homicide, instead of murder after he voluntarily pleaded guilty to the offense.

Ybañez also ordered Cauba to pay the heirs of the victim, Gilbert Menosa Mahusay, P50,000 in death indemnity.

Cauba was accused of repeatedly stabbing Mahusay in the body, causing his death, court records said.

In a re-arraignment on Feb. 13, 2006, Mahusay, assisted by counsel, freely and spontaneously pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of homicide.*DMG
