'City to join war
against trafficking'
BY RENE GENOVE

Organizers of the week-long roadshow campaign against trafficking in persons of the Visayas Forum and the newly-organized Provincial Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Persons have been assured by Dumaguete Vice Mayor William Ablong that the city is well-prepared to join the "war" against human trafficking.

The campaign in Dumaguete City ended yesterday.

The Visayas Forum and its partner agencies in Dumaguete led by top public and private officials launched the roadshow to convict more violators of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.

The activity was highlighted by the launching in Dumaguete and Oriental Negros of the PIACATP through an executive order issued by Gov. George Arnaiz and the signing of the Negros Oriental manifesto.

Ablong said the city government has enacted an anti-decency ordinance that complements the campaign.

The ordinance, which he authored covers all cases of immoral acts involving women and children, Ablong added.

He also said the city government will soon organize an Anti-Indecency Board to ensure that the ordinance is strictly enforced.

The ordinance also bans the recruitment and hiring of minors in nightclubs.*RG
