University of St. La Salle, St. John's Institute and Bacolod Tay
Tung High School posted victories against different opponents over
the weekend to claim the titles of their respective divisions in
the NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod
City.
The USLS aspirants' squad of Troy Sarabia drubbed SJI, 103-65,
to bring home the championship yesterday, while the Gerome Aledron-mentored
BTTHS cagers trounced St. John's, 87-79, to grab the 10-Under crown
Saturday.
The SJI stalwarts also had their share of the limelight after
registering a 67-66 triumph over their La Salle rivals to snatch
the title in the elementary category Saturday.
Luigi dela Paz exploded for 37 points to lead the aspirants'
squad of USLS in retaining its championship, while Juan Antonio
Henares poured in 16 markers.
Anchoring SJI's offense was Raymund Lacson as he canned 25
points, while Mark Arvin Uy contributed 16 points. In the 10-Under
title showdown, 9-year-old Kib Montalbo amassed 35 points to spearhead
Tay Tungs' offensive attack as Kim Bayquin shot 26 markers.
Pacing St. John's was Kenneth de Leon with 29 points, while
Joshua Co scored 18 points.
SJI spoiled the 30 points of La Sallian Emmanuel Sevilla after
Luigi Coo and Allen Dionela posted 15 and 13 markers, respectively,
to power St. John's in winning the elementary crown. Backstopping
Sevilla in a losing cause for USLS was Lester Laya with 14 points.
Mansilingan Christian Academy finished third in the aspirants
and 10-Under divisions, while Tay Tung took second runner-up honors
