A senior student of St. John's Institute in Bacolod
City, Jermaine Gandola Sy, was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding
Students of the Chinese Schools of the Philippines at the Philippine
Cultural High School, recently, an SJI press release said yesterday.
More than 60 candidates vied for the award this
year. The search is sponsored by the Ah Shin Educational Foundation
and participated in by all Chinese schools in the country, and has
been conducted for 13 years now. Sy, eldest child of Jonathan and
Ana Lisa Sy has been a consistent honor student since elementary
school. She is now the head servant leader of the Campus Ministry
and is active in school and interschool activities. She was a recipient
of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational
Association Outstanding Student Award given in January. She is also
a student of decorum and had been a best conduct awardee, the press
release said.
Her coach is SJI faculty member Jane Po.
The emcee at the awarding ceremony was Emilio Lopue
Jr., an Ah Shin awardee last year and also an SJI alumnus. Other
SJI alumni who had received the same award are Lady Beth Ong, Jennifer
Ong, Ma. Christina Ruth Ham, Jasmin Cordova and Alissa Barcelona,

Sagay
City youth IT center
adjudged 'most impressive'
The Sagay City Youth Technology Center in Sagay City,
Negros Occidental was adjudged "Most Impressive Scala ICT Center"
in the recent Program Review and Evaluation Workshop conducted among
24 information computer technology training centers in the country,
a press release from the Sagay City government said yesterday.
The Sagay center already has 44 graduates and
the fourth batch is presently undergoing on-the-job training in
different departments of the city.
Lizette Mansueto, an SCYTC instructor, was also chosen
by the Social Welfare and Development-Social Technology Bureau and
the Engineers Without Borders of Canada to be one of the four instructors
to provide technical assistance to the newly opened ICT training
centers in the country, it said. The Sagay DSWD also tapped various
government offices agencies for the SCYTC program for the out-of-school
youth and persons with disabilities, the press release added.*
