Do more arrests,
judge urges cops

Executive Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. of the Regional Trial Court of Oriental Negros has urged the Philippine National Police in Dumaguete City arrest more illegal drug suspects through search warrants already issued.

Bandal made the statement after at least three instances when police teams serving search warrants failed to collar the illegal drug suspects.

He advised the city police to serve the orders on the day they are issued to avoid "negative results".

Bandal said such failures could create negative impressions about police raids and could raise questions on the intelligence capability of the police.

He added that he understands the constraints the police are facing but hopes they would remain "honest-to-goodness".

Bandal, meanwhile, said he will investigate reports that some employees of the court are involved in illegal drugs. He assured that any employee confirmed to be involved in the banned substance will be charged and dismissed.

He stressed that court employees should be role models particularly since all illegal drug-related search and arrest warrants come from the RTC.

Moreover, their issuance is confidential, he added, and known only to the police and court staff.*
