Bishop calls for prayers
BY DONALYN M. GUERERRO

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra yesterday urged church parishes to conduct a prayer vigil in their churches that emotions will not play a big role in the present situation of the country with declaration of a state emergency yesterday by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Navarra said the scenario after Arroyo's declaration of state emergency was full of emotions and something very violent could have happened if the situation had not been handled properly.

He said he also hopes this event could also open the eyes of the administration and everybody concerned over the situation to work together for a solution, and especially for the truth to come out.

Navarra said he directed Social Action director Mao Buenafe yesterday to ask all parishes to conduct prayer vigils in their churches.

He said he believes Arroyo's Proclamation No. 1017 could be a solution to the violence happening in the country.

Earlier yesterday, Arroyo proclaimed a national emergency and ordered the arrest of military officers allegedly involved in a plot to topple her government.*DMG
